The Rest of the Kitty Crew
Tux
ALIASES: Lucifee
LIKES: Laying around, having a continuous food supply.
DISLIKES: Patches hissing at him.
Tux is the newest addition to our family. He showed up at our front door one morning. It was clear that he was owned by someone. He was fat, healthy, and had a collar. He was very whiny, so I gave him food and water. We started looking for his owner, but had no luck. He hung around our house for a few days and eventually took up residence in my carport. We had agreed that we would not take in any more cats at that point, so I was determined NOT to bring him inside. We still hadn't heard anything from his owners. Tux was going to a neighbor's house and they were yelling at him and chasing him off. At one point I heard what sounded like a pellet gun firing, and saw Lucifee running away. He disappeared for a day. When he came back we decided that we would let him inside just until we found his owners. After about six weeks we stopped looking. He's our kitty now.
He's a good boy. He is well behaved and likes being an indoor cat. He is much bigger than our other cats. I was shocked at the amount of food and litter he goes through!
Smitty
ALIASES: Smitters, Smitter-bits, Mister Bits, Bat-faced Boy.
LIKES: Watching me in the bathtub, mirrors, attacking my rubber duckie, eating.
DISLIKES: Running out of food, being ignored, closed doors..
Smitty is the brother of Mah-jongg. Their mother was a rescued kitty. While Mah-jongg is rather dim, Smitty is one of the smartest cats I have ever seen! He likes to sit on our bathroom sink and watch me in the mirror while take a bath. If the mirror gets steamed up, Smitty clears the whole mirror with his paw. He likes to look at himself in the mirror too. He knows that he is seeing himself and makes faces in the mirror. He bares his teeth and turns his head to get different angles. When I put on makeup, he pulls my hand to his face. I take different tubes of lipstick (with the caps still on) and pretend I am carefully applying it to his mouth and eyes. He always inspects himself in the mirror and obviously thinks he is gorgeous! He can turn doorknobs and open doors. He even tries to flush the toilet just to watch the water swirl. He knows a sure way to get out of trouble is to make me laugh. One morning, after finding our CD rack and CD's were strewn about the office floor. I walked out into the living room to find my twenty-two pound fat black cat standing in the middle of the room throwing a potholder in the air and doing back flips. There was no doubt in my mind as to who knocked the CD rack down! He's full of mischief, but he is a good-hearted boy.
Mah-jongg
ALIASES: MissPiss, PissPiss, Missy Pisskins, Missy Dimkins.
LIKES: Shoes, stealing small objects and hiding them somewhere where they are never seen again, Pringles potato chips, having her picture taken, being beautiful.
DISLIKES: She really doesn't seem to have any dislikes!
This is Mah-jongg. She is the offspring of a rescued cat. Our vet says she is a longhaired lynx point Siamese. She is very beautiful, but I'm afraid she is a bit of an air-head. She loves my shoes. She does this thing where she kind of tries to dive into a shoe. It's like she thinks if she does it just right she will fit in there. Sometimes she will lay on the floor with a pair of shoes in front of her with a front paw stuck in to each shoe. She has a real timid "sugar and spice" thing going, but when she thinks we aren't looking, she can get really "snakes and snails" with the other cats. When we scold her she acts all innocent like "What? Little old me fighting? You must be mistaken!" She may not be the brightest light on the Christmas tree, but we love her dearly!
Trouble
ALIASES: Trubby, Trubbins, Wubbles, Wubby-do.
LIKES: Being away from the other cats.
DISLIKES: Strangers, especially children.
Trouble is one of Ben's rescued cats. She was just a tiny kitten when she showed up at the door of his martial arts school. It was raining that evening and she yowled to be let in during a break in an aerobics class. He opened the door, and she tore across the floor to his office, where she spent the class curled up on a desk. He took her home. Of course.
Trouble is pretty much a loner. She does like Ben and I, she goes a bit psycho when anyone else tries to touch her.
P.K.
ALIASES: Pretty Kitty, Meow-Say-Tounge, Peekers, Bunny-honey.
LIKES: Ben, peace and quiet, being a bit of a drama queen.
DISLIKES: New cats
P.K is Ben's other rescued cat. He found her when she was just a kitten. She was outside of a McDonald's, begging food and acting in every other way as a wild cat, thin and frightened - and beautiful.
He captured her in a box and took her home, and then spent about two months feeding and talking to her in a PVC cage. After two months, she became willing to let him touch her. Sometimes.
He eventually let her loose in his home office. He put a cat box in, put down food and water, and let her loose. At first she hid most of the time, but after a while she came occasionally came out of hiding when he was in the room. By about the six month mark, she would let him pet her.
Now P.K. is one of the most loving cats we have. She is completely devoted to Ben. She definitely lucked out when he found her!
Aikido
ALIASES: Keeters, Misskeeto, Keeterbunny, Keeterbeats, Baby Keats.
LIKES: Being sweet and cuddly.
DISLIKES: Being ignored, having her picture taken (hence the really bad photo).
Aikido was the kitten of a rescued stray female cat. While Akido's mother was pregnant, we had another stray female give birth to a litter of 4 kittens. Despite our efforts to stop her, Akido's mother took the kittens from the birth mother, and nursed them herself. The kittens were about three weeks old when Aikido was born. By that time, the other kittens were nearly three times her size. Poor little Aikido had to try to compete with the much bigger, stronger kittens for milk and her mother's attention. Worse yet, the kittens decided that Aikido was a cat toy to bat around. We did what we could to protect her and see that she was fed and cared for, but she still became a very needy kitten. She demanded lots of extra love and attention. If we played with other kittens she would sit across the room with a look of pure hate and jealousy on her little face.
She is full grown now, but is still a tiny little thing. She is very sweet, but still has a bit of a pesty need for attention. She wants to be the number one kitty. I think of all of my cats, I feel most protective of her.
Mr. Meezer
ALIASES: Prince, Measley,The Cat Formerly Known as Prince, Meezer, Grimmy, That Useless Meezer.
LIKES: Being grim, forcibly bathing his kitty buddies, and ignoring us until we are getting ready to leave the house.
DISLIKES: Kitty treats, being laughed at, the litterbox, and having us leave the house.
This Mr. Meezer. We got him from a Pet Smart where he and his lifelong friend Greebers were up for adoption by a local pet shelter. They were both twelve years old and had been at Pet Smart every Sunday for six weeks looking for a home. Because the shelter's resources were limited, after 6 weeks if a cat was unadoptable, they had to make room for ones that would be adopted quickly. The people at the shelter decided to give them one more chance before they took the boys to the Humane Society where they would probably have been euthanized after a week or so. Ben bought both boys for me.
I can describe Meezer with one word....GRIM. Well, maybe two words...SIAMESE and GRIM. He certainly LOOKS Siamese, and he has a heartbreakingly mournful Siamese yowl. It is pretty obvious that someone abused our poor Meezer. His jaw is crooked from being broken, and he still cowers and cringes when we reach out to pet him. After we brought him home, it took over a month before he came out of hiding. It took even longer for him to trust us. Now he can actually be quite cuddly and loveable at times! He's still grim though.
