TIPS FOR MINI PRINTABLES
Printing your own miniatures is an easy, fun, and inexpensive way to accessorize your dollhouses. Here are a few tips to help with your mini creations.

Saving and Resizing Images

The first thing you will need to is save the image to your hard drive. Right-click on the image and save to your specified folder.

Many of the mini printables on this site are already sized to 1 inch scale (1:12 Scale). Some printers will automatically print to the correct size. However, you may need to resize the images. There are many programs that are useful in resizing images such as Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, Printmaster, WinImages, etc. Each program handles resizing somewhat differently, so just follow the program's instructions for resizing.

Choosing the Right Paper for the Job

Different printables work best on different kinds of paper. For books, magazines, cards, bags, or paper goods, regular paper works the best. Card stock is better for food boxes, puzzles, etc. Many people recommend card stock for wallpaper and flooring. I personally have better luck with regular paper in a heavier stock. Use fabric for bedspreads, curtains, rugs, etc. For tips on printing fabric with your inkjet printer click here.

Printing Your Minis

Before you do the final printing, I recommend that you do a "Print Preview" of the item you want to print. This will help you decide if the printable will need to be resized. When you are ready to print your mini, make sure your printer or printer driver is set to print on the highest quality setting in order to get the best results.

For printables like wallpaper, you will need to make sure that the ink will not run and smear when you apply paste or glue. If you are lucky enough to have access to a color laser printer, your printables will be ready to go. If you use a regular ink jet printer, you'll want to use a spray sealer to preserve the ink. For items like flooring you may also give it a coat or two of Mod Podge to give it texture and a shiny look .

Finishing Your Minis

After you print and prepare your paper minis you are ready to finish them.

You'll want to use very fine scissors or a very sharp knife when cutting out your minis. An Exacto knife or even an inexpensive retractable razor cutter works well.

When folding along fold lines, it helps to fold them over a sharp edge. A sharp table edge or the sharp edge of a ruler work nicely.

For gluing your minis use a tiny dab of tacky glue applies with a toothpick.
