ABOUT ME

I LOVE CATS! I wasn't always a cat lover. I had a big black tom cat that I adored when I was a little girl. He was extremely tolerant of a bratty little girl who would dress him up as a fairy godmother or princess and make him ride in a baby stroller. After he was gone I lost interest in cats. I started thinking of cats as pesty, annoying, and sneaky. I had a particular dislike for Siamese cats. A neighbor had one that was a bit antagonistic and downright creepy. He would come underneath my bedroom window at night and cry like a human baby. It freaked me out for almost a year because I didn't know what was making the noise. One snowy night, the little bugger left footprints in the snow, and I realized it was the freaky cat crying in the night.

My indifference to cats continued into my adulthood, until one day a Siamese cat found me. I was sitting out on my deck and she came up and tried to make friends. She was full grown, but still a tiny little thing. She was VERY friendly. When I went inside she darted into my house. Every time I tried to put her out she hid. A neighbor mentioned that she had thrown water on the cat for crying on her doorstep one evening. It was quite cold at night and the idea of the little kitty cold and wet and hungry did me in. I got her a litter box and food and went about trying to find her owners. I never found them. After a while I stopped looking. She owned me. I named her Dragon.

Our sweet girl!!
Here is Dragon hissing at a poor unfortunate kitten. Can you guess how we picked her name?

Dragon was pregnant! About six weeks after she moved in with us, she presented us with three adorable kittens. There were 2 fluffy black boys and a tiny tortoise shell girl. We intended to find good homes for the kittens, but one of the little males, Crowley, had his leg injured badly. He was hiding on a chair under a pillow and a neighbor boy sat on him. He could barely walk for a few weeks and was pretty much unadoptable. We decided to keep him.

Crowley saved my life! I had a terrible, depressing job and a totally crappy marriage. I was depressed and felt completely hopeless. Crowley put a smile back on my face. It was impossible not to laugh at his whacky antics. He was extremely smart with loads of cattitude! He was the catalyst (no pun intended) for many changes in my life. The better I felt the more positive changes I made in my life. I quit smoking. I started dieting and lost weight. I joined a Tae Kwon Do Class. My husband didn't like the change in me. The happier I became, the more he resented it. I think actually preferred me depressed and unhappy.

It's Crowley!
My good friend Crowley

When Crowley was a year old I left with my son, my kitties, and whatever we could fit in my GEO Metro and started a new life. I have not regretted it for a second. Thank you Crowley!

When Ben and I got together I had my kitties and he had his. He loved his cats as much as I did. We live in a small town in a very rural area of northeast Montana. We have seperated our home into areas for our declawed cats, our healty clawed cats, and our cats who need to be isolated because of disease. Since we work at home most of the time, we are able to give our kitties the attention they deserve.

At this time we have eleven cats. However, our cat population is always changing. Most of our cats are older, so we are losing some to old age and disease. We made the decision to let our cat population decrease as we lose them and not take in any more. That is easier said that done. Unlike most people, I prefer adult cats to kittens. If we find a kitten in need we find a home for it. It is the unadoptable older cats that tug our heartstrings. All of our cats are indoor cats. The environment here is not friendly to cats, especially in the winter. All of that cats we have taken in are perfectly willing to be house cats.
